Some useful gadgets for your trip

The Chinese website DX.com offers a vast amount of various products for a bargain that mostly fit for their purpose. The major advantages of Dealextreme is its reliability, free and relatively fast shipping (4 weeks), safe payments and some sort of refund policy that exceeds refund policy of many an Asian reseller on Ebay. Therefore, it is really worth of having a look at few of their products. Sometimes, you might buy things that does not live to your expectations, but this has not happened to me very often. Just be sure you read reviews on a product that you are considering to purchase.

Here I list several things that helped me a lot on my bike pilgrimage:

External cellphone battery

Batteries on smartphones go flat pretty fast these days. That is the toll for their great functionality. This might not disturb you much normally at home or at work because you can always find an electricity socket. However, on travel, looking for electricity sockets is a horse of another colour! Therefore, these little things can save you a lot of trouble and will prove extremely handy.
You can also find some solar and manual dynamo chargers for cellphones, but do not buy them. Those I got did not work at all.

Headlamp

There is a plenty of cheaper headlamps on the market, yet this one has proved its value for me. The key advantage of this headlamp is are two red led diodes in the front and one in the back that can strobe. This is extremely useful if you bike at night and need some extra illumination. Similarly, these red diodes do not only help you when you need to illuminate yourself, but also in times when you, on the contrary, need to hide and use your light discretly, for instance by building a tent. Red light is not so noticable from the distance and it offers sufficient light in the shroud of darkness. Moreover, its powerful cree bulb works as a great spotlight and when fixed on your helmet, can offer additional distance illumination besides your bike light, for instance if you want to look to the side. It is very practical and hand-free; therefore, extremely useful for travelling.

Bike lights

I used these little gadgets that beamed like crazy. It felt like caroussel on wheels, but it is still better to overdo with lights on your bike than to underdo with them.

Other outdoor equippment for hiking and cycling

Here is a list of different items offered on the website. In general, you can buy many things here cheaper than in a hardware store (with exception of uncanny Lidl that can always offer everything cheaper), but I must warn you that sometimes the quality might not live up to your expectations. Therefore, buy only things that cannot be produced defectively and that cannot go wrong, such as additional gears and components. For instance, I bought a cyclocomputer for 10 € and it does not work well. You might as well avoid purchasing any electronics from the website, too.
